Blargg's Analysis
After finishing Game 315 Blargg posted the following analysis on the Player's Board. For those
of you who are not familiar with his style of play, I would describe him as the Cardinal Richelieu
of SE. He is always in an alliance, usually one he has formed and which is always one of the
strongest. If you attack him the alliance responds against you immediately. His rankings
have risen along with the importance of the role of Diplomacy. I have played with him and
against him and I consider this analysis to be his greatest contribution to the SE community.
Read it and learn from a master.
- Figure out early in the game who the real threat is.
- Don't ignore what's going on beyond your own corner of the map. Always keep the
big picture in mind.
- If another player gets up to 30 stars, and you're not allied with that player,
you're toast. Don't let your most dangerous enemies get too strong while you get bogged
down in local squabbles.
- Figure out what type of game it's going to be. For example 315 shaped up very quickly
to be an east vs. west game, but many players didn't recognize that until it was too late.
- The enemy of your enemy is your friend.
- Don't fight a two-front war if you can help it.
- Don't cave in to unreasonable demands. Make your enemy fight for what he wants.
- Don't antagonize your allies by attacking their other allies, especially when you have a
larger opponent on the other side of you, just waiting to attack you.
Thank you.
